Walmart+ offers several promotions for members, including free Paramount Plus, grocery delivery perks, and more. The most interesting perk, however, is likely the Walmart Plus gas discount.
Here's a quick guide to finding participating gas stations and how to claim your discount and other Walmart+ benefits — all of which you can access as a complimentary perk if you have The Platinum Card® from American Express and complete enrollment.

What Is Walmart Plus?
Walmart+ is Walmart's membership program. Similar to Amazon Prime, Walmart+ offers plenty of benefits, including:
- Free grocery delivery with orders $35 or more.
- Free next-day or two-day shipping on Walmart.com orders with no minimum spending requirement. Exclusions apply.
- Scan and Go contactless checkout.
- Free Paramount Plus Essential Plan (does not include SHOWTIME).
- Free flat tire repair and free road hazard warranty at Walmart Auto Care Centers.
- Discounted gas at Walmart, Murphy, Exxon, Mobil, and Sam's Club stations.
- Easy return collection from home without the need to print or package anything.
- Early access to member promotions, Black Friday deals, and more.
Walmart+ vs. Amazon Prime
As you can see, Walmart+ has several similar benefits to Amazon Prime. With Prime, you get free next-day or two-day shipping with no minimum spend, two-hour delivery with Amazon Fresh and Whole Foods, Prime Video, etc. However, Amazon Prime doesn't have a gas discount other than 2% cash back on gas purchases with the Prime Visa. Moreover, a Prime membership is more expensive than Walmart+.
Depending on whether you have a Walmart store near you — or you value specific Walmart+ benefits such as the Paramount Plus Essential Plan subscription — you might want to get both memberships.
Up to $12.95 Walmart+ Membership Statement Credit with the Amex Platinum
A Walmart+ monthly membership costs $12.95 plus tax. Alternatively, the annual plan costs $98 plus tax. Qualifying government aid recipients of SNAP, WIC, Medicaid, and more can get a Walmart+ Assist membership for 50% off ($6.47 monthly or $49 annually). Furthermore, you can add Walmart+ InHome delivery for $7 per month or $40 per year and have any order of $35 or more delivered to your chosen delivery point in your house.
If you're uncertain about getting a Walmart+ membership, you can always get a free 30-day trial membership. On the other hand, you can claim a free Walmart+ membership with the Amex Platinum card.
Those with the Amex Platinum can claim a free Walmart+ membership — valued at $12.95 monthly. A statement credit of $12.95 plus applicable taxes will apply any month a member charges the Walmart+ membership to their card. You can enroll for this benefit here.
This benefit is only valid on Walmart+ monthly plans, not annual plans. If you already have an annual Walmart+ membership, simply switch to the monthly membership before your annual renewal date to get your monthly statement credit.
Furthermore, you can only have one Walmart+ statement credit per account. If additional account cardholders pay for a monthly Walmart+ subscription, only the basic cardholder receives the statement credit.

Walmart Plus Gas Discount at Exxon & Mobil Stations
One of the better benefits, and something not available with an Amazon Prime membership, is the Walmart Plus gas discount. Walmart Plus members get a gas discount at the following stations:
- Participating Exxon and Mobil gas stations: Discount of 10 cents per gallon
- Walmart and Murphy gas stations: Discount of 5 to 10 cents per gallon, depending on local laws
- Sam's Club fuel centers: Access to member pricing
Exxon and Mobil have nearly 12,000 gas stations across the U.S., and Sam's Club has another 500 gas stations; those plus the Sam's Club and Murphy locations bring the total number to over 14,000 stations where Walmart Plus members can get a gas discount. To find a station near you, use Walmart's store locator, Exxon and Mobil's station locator, or GasBuddy.
Here's how to get your discounted pricing: In the Walmart app, select member prices on fuel from your Walmart+ membership page and follow the instructions. Some members needed to remove their saved payment methods before they could activate the offer.
Leverage Your Amex Platinum To Get Discounted Gas at Exxon and Mobil Stations
Using your Amex Platinum to get a Walmart+ statement credit is quite the deal. The Walmart Plus gas discount could save you around $75 a year in gas. That's on top of saving $7.99 monthly on the Paramount+ Essential Plan and other benefits. This comes at no extra cost if you have the Amex Platinum.
Enrollment is required for select Amex benefits.
At ExxonMobil stations, you'll need to click on “Services” near the bottom of the Walmart app, then choose “Member prices on fuel.” If your app doesn't automatically detect which gas station you're at, use the camera to scan the QR code at your pump. Enter the pump number, and then fill up as you normally would.
Here's the kicker: You don't have to pay with the credit card you use to pay your monthly Walmart+ membership. That means you could pay with one of the best credit cards for gas instead, adding extra earnings to the equation.
Our Take
This is a solid deal for Amex Platinum cardmembers to get a Walmart Plus membership and save with the gas discount. Even if you don't have the Amex Platinum, at least you can pay for the Walmart+ membership and get discounted gas. It's quite a benefit to have 14,000 gas stations at which you can buy discounted fuel.
If you purchase a lot of gas, make sure to look into other ways to save at the pump. For example, Costco members can use the Costco Anywhere Visa® Card by Citi to earn 4% cash back on eligible gas and EV charging purchases for the first $7,000 per year and then 1% thereafter on gas purchases — in addition to getting already-low member pricing.
